Alice in Wonderland is timeless. Though Alice, the clever little girl, evokes the prim era in which she was born with her speech and mannerisms, it's impossible to imagine any child not enjoying this, and even adults should revisit it now and then. It has all the magic and absurdity of the Disney cartoon most people are more familiar with, and a lot more heart. You don't read it for the plot (there isn't one, really), but it has depth and shades of cleverness that are absent from most contemporary kidlit and YA.
