The Walking Dead, Vol. 1: Days Gone Bye - Tony Moore, Robert Kirkman This is a great zombie apocalypse tale. The characters are all interesting. It's violent and gory, as you'd expect from a zombie series, but sometimes it seems like people get killed unexpectedly and gruesomely just to keep up the blood-splatter quotient. Also, as you continue to read the series, you'll learn not to become attached to any characters; nobody, but nobody, is immune to death in this series, and any given character has maybe a 50/50 chance of surviving to the end of a volume (which is why the story requires the characters to periodically encounter new groups of people, to replenish the constant attrition among cast members).
