Shogun: A Novel of Japan - James Clavell I read this book when I was about twelve -- that's how engrossing it was, that it could get a fifth-grader to read an 800-page novel. Samurai! Ninja! Sex and violence! Of course now I know that Clavell shat all over Japanese history and culture, but if you don't care much about historical accuracy it's still a pretty good read.
