The White Mountains (Tripods, #1) - John Christopher I loved these books as a child. I should reread it someday to see how it holds up. But it's a classic story of conquered humans rising up against alien overlords, and the tripods (admittedly borrowed from H.G. Wells) really make you shiver every time they appear.
